Strongman Steve Varga Wrestling Strength Trainer






Jess with her strength coach, New Zealand powerlifting champion, Steve Varga. Strength and power training plays a big part in the Combat Sports School Olympic Wrestling teams cross-training. Jess trains twice weekly under the control of Steve once with the team, and on Sundays individually. Her training ranges from light weights, higher reps to heavy weights, lower reps and also involves dynamic movement with the power bands and heavy hammer, etc. She has also recently received the assistance of a senior military physical training instructor with her dynamic and explosive movement, in the form of a specially designed programme. These cross-training programmes are very important to her preparation for her competing in Japan and at the Commonwealth Games qualifier (Commonwealth Cup), India 2009.
