Training Camp 27th - 28th September 2008

Kevan McLaughlan, High Performance Director NZOWU, conducted an off-season training camp at the Combat Sports School Olympic Wrestling Club in Dunedin. Both Taeiri and Combat Sports School wrestlers attended including Ricky Welsford and Nico Bloemsaat who are leaving early October for the 2008 Commonwealth Youth Games in Pune, India.

This is the second time Kevan has graciously accepted the invitation from Combat Sports School to travel to Dunedin and coach.

ombat Sports School have recently fitted 3 new mat rooms and are close to finishing renovating these mat rooms.

The wrestlers, as well as coaches, Alan Rolton and Scott Hewit, very much appreciate Kevan's willingness to assist and high level of expertise. The wrestlers were considerably quieter than usual and post-training experienced the aches and pains of the training camp but all can't wait until Kevan's next visit.

The general consensus was that Kevan explains things well and equally demonstrates them as well and ensures there is plenty of physical learning and practice and downtime is kept to a minimum.

The Taeiri club and Combat Sports combining for such training and the possibility of travelling as an Otago team will make for provincial pride and the benefits of inter-club training.

The Combat Sports School Olympic Wrestling Club would like to genuinely thank Kevan and encourage all Otago wrestlers to ensure they make it to Kevan's next Dunedin training, date to be set. Watch this space.
